TrashFormation 2008: Recycled Art Competition and Exhibition in Yellowknife!

August 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Recycled-works artists have a knack for taking something old and unwanted and breathing new life into it, creating masterpieces that are simultaneously fresh and seasoned. Please join us for our second annual TrashFormation Competition and Exhibition as we celebrate this innovative, aesthetically intriguing and environmentally friendly genre of the arts.

The TrashFormation Competition and Exhibition will be held in conjunction with ArtsWeek, September 20-28 2008, hosted by the Aurora Arts Society. Prizes will be awarded: First Air tickets for two to Edmonton, $400 in framing from Visual Effects, and a $200 cash prize. Artists may choose to sell their works from the exhibition. An established commission on all works sold will go to the Aurora Arts Society to support future art projects/activities. All sale inquires will be referred to the artist.

Eligibility

  • Artworks must be of approximately 80% recycled materials.
  • The artwork must be created from materials that would otherwise be disposed of in the trash or materials found at the Yellowknife Dump.
  • Artwork must be ready to hang on the wall and should be no larger than fit through a standard doorway. Freestanding sculptural works are also encouraged and must have a footprint of no larger than what can fit through a standard doorway.
  • Participants must be members of the Aurora Arts Society (you can become a member for $10 when you register).

Submissions
Each work must be accompanied by a completed Trashformation entry form, including an artist bio of no more than 300 words. Three photos or digital images of the work in progress must accompany each sculpture. Submit your work and documentation to Terry at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre on Thursday, September 18, 2008.

Judging & Awards

  1. Use of recycled materials
  2. Creativity
